New Avenues to Independence

About New Avenues . . .

New Avenues to Independence is a private, non-profit organization that has been serving children and adults with diabilities since 1952. The organization was incorporated in 1956 as Parents' Volunteer Association for Children and Adults, Inc.

As a result of our expansion in services provided and clientele served, we changed our name this year to better reflect the work we do in the community.

We currently serve over 400 persons annually in our tri-county area which is comprised of Cuyahoga, Lake, and Ashtabula Counties.

New Avenues is proud to be a pioneer in the disability community as we strive to meet our goal of excellence.

New Avenues to Independence owns and operates homes in Cleveland Heights, University Heights, Lakewood, Bratenahl, Richmond Heights, and Perry, as well as two cottages on the Main Campus in Cleveland. New Avenues to Independence also provides Supported Living services in 40 sites in our tri-county service area. New Avenues offers the following services and programs to our facility-based and home-based clients: New Avenues operates two respite programs, including a transitional respite program which provides transitional care for individuals with disabilities moving from one placement to another. Our traditional respite program provides an on-going service for families caring for a loved one who has a disability or is medically fragile.

New Avenues also administers a summer program at the Broadmoor School in Lake County. The Broadmoor Summer Activities Program is an inclusive structured summer camp for children ages 3 to 11.

In addition, New Avenues administers a Section 8 Mainstream Housing Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities program in our tri-county area. In addition to providing rental assistance to families with disabilities, our Mainstream program provides housing search assistance, tenant/landlord mediation, and accessibility modification technical assistance to landlords.

New Avenues will soon open an inclusive child care program which will initially serve toddlers and infants, both with and without disabilities. New Avenues will continue to provide services and programs of the highest quality.
